Perseverance landed on Mars’ Jezero Crater on February 18, 2021. These images were obtained on February 20, 2021.   A key objective for Perseverance’s mission on Mars is astrobiology, including the search for signs of ancient microbial life. The rover will characterize the planet’s geology and past climate, pave the way for human exploration of the Red Planet, and be the first mission to collect and cache Martian rock and regolith. Over the past two decades, the mission has mapped the composition of the Martian surface, providing a window to the past so scientists could piece together how the planet evolved. It has also served as a vital asset in relaying communications between landers and rovers at the Red Planet and the mission teams back on Earth. Here are some of the highlights of the last 20 years: Mars Odyssey has completed 80,000 orbits. Mars Odyssey has taken more than 1.2 million images. Mars Odyssey has returned 16 terabits of total science data to Earth, including 1 terabit of data relayed from Mars surface missions. Mars Odyssey has provided communications relay for six Mars surface missions: the Phoenix and InSight landers, as well as the Spirit, Opportunity, Curiosity, and Perseverance rovers. https://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/catalog/PIA24915","description_508":"NASA's 2001 Mars Odyssey orbiter arrived at Mars on October 24, 2001.","keywords":["2001 Mars Odyssey","Mars"],"media_type":"image","nasa_id":"PIA24915","secondary_creator":"NASA/JPL-Caltech","title":"Mars Odyssey Orbiter By the Numbers"}],"links":[{"href":"https://images-assets.nasa.gov/image/PIA24915/PIA24915~medium.jpg","rel":"alternate","render":"image","width":1280,"size":100000,"height":711},{"href":"https://images-assets.nasa.gov/image/PIA24915/PIA24915~small.jpg","rel":"alternate","render":"image","width":640,"size":33000,"height":355},{"href":"https://images-assets.nasa.gov/image/PIA24915/PIA24915~thumb.jpg","rel":"preview","render":"image","width":640,"size":33000,"height":355},{"href":"https://images-assets.nasa.gov/image/PIA24915/PIA24915~large.jpg","rel":"alternate","render":"image","width":1920,"size":190000,"height":1066},{"href":"https://images-assets.nasa.gov/image/PIA24915/PIA24915~orig.jpg","rel":"canonical","render":"image","height":2000,"width":3600,"size":529408}]},{"href":"https://images-assets.nasa.gov/image/PIA09021/collection.json","data":[{"center":"JPL","date_created":"2006-12-06T17:55:01Z","description":"Procedure for Finding New Impact Sites on Mars Using the Mars Global Surveyor Mars Orbiter Camera","description_508":"Procedure for Finding New Impact Sites on Mars Using the Mars Global Surveyor Mars Orbiter Camera","keywords":["Mars","Mars Global Surveyor MGS"],"media_type":"image","nasa_id":"PIA09021","secondary_creator":"NASA/JPL/Malin Space Science Systems","title":"Procedure for Finding New Impact Sites on Mars Using the Mars Global Surveyor Mars Orbiter Camera"}],"links":[{"href":"https://images-assets.nasa.gov/image/PIA09021/PIA09021~medium.jpg","rel":"alternate","render":"image","width":1277,"size":237000,"height":1280},{"href":"https://images-assets.nasa.gov/image/PIA09021/PIA09021~small.jpg","rel":"alternate","render":"image","width":638,"size":56000,"height":640},{"href":"https://images-assets.nasa.gov/image/PIA09021/PIA09021~thumb.jpg","rel":"preview","render":"image","width":638,"size":56000,"height":640},{"href":"https://images-assets.nasa.gov/image/PIA09021/PIA09021~large.jpg","rel":"alternate","render":"image","width":1916,"size":555000,"height":1920},{"href":"https://images-assets.nasa.gov/image/PIA09021/PIA09021~orig.jpg","rel":"canonical","render":"image","height":1931,"width":1927,"size":570000}]},{"href":"https://images-assets.nasa.gov/video/JPL-20200429-TECHf-0002-Mars Helicopter Animation/collection.json","data":[{"album":["Mars_2020_Perseverance"],"center":"JPL","date_created":"2020-04-29T00:00:00Z","description":"Animations for media and public use.
